This is a journal of my vegetable gardens. Skippy was my first dog and he thought the garden was his, even though I did all the work. Now Suzie and Charley follow in his footsteps. We're located near Boston (USDA zone 6A). I have a community plot, a backyard vegetable garden, fruit trees, berry bushes, chickens, and bees. I use sustainable organic methods and do my best to grow all of my family's vegetables myself.

first tomatoes
My first tomatoes of the year are two pretty little Sungold cherries.
Aren't they cute! I started a sungold in June that is now about 8" high. I hope it produces before fall as I have never tried a sungold before. I've been left out of the loop I think.
Congrats on your first 2 tomatoes! I'm jealous... still waiting for my first ones to come in. I had been harvesting already by this time last year. -Jackie
so cute! congrats on a tomato harvest of any kind with all the blight problems. We've escaped some of that here in NJ and have been eating grape tomatoes for about three weeks now. Just harvested a monster Zucchini and we grilled it. it was bigger than my 8 year old daughter's head! Mmmm...that was my first tomato harvest too! I have that same plate, do you have the rest of the set as well. The pasta bowls and plates are really cool!
Wow, you're just now getting tomatoes in. My last two Black Krims were picked about a week ago. Of course Central Texas has had the hottest July ever (five days below 100 degrees) so that's to be expected. Keep up the good work.
I still have no full size tomatoes ripe yet. Its a very late year. And I even planted a few plants very early this spring. I have my eye on a Beefsteak that's starting to turn red now.

there are very few tomatoes down here on the seacoast. To much rain and not enough sun so sad
Yum, Sungold are my favorites! They are so prone to splitting though....

My fist toms are Sungolds too. The plants look horrendous and are yellowing but the fruit is amazingly holding on. They are so sweet!
Enjoy! Sungold are fantastic. Such a burst of flavor. I'm trying Sweet Olive this year. LOTS of green fruits covering my plant on my deck.
My first tomatoes were Sungolds too. They are such great plants. They are so early and so prolific.

Congrats! With all the rain and disease that you have been fighting on the East Coast, the first tomatoes this year are worth their weight in gold.

I have a volunteer tomato plant that's a little over 6 ft. tall. BUNCH of tomatoes....just all green.
The rest are also flowering or fruiting nicely though.

I've been doing taste tests with my early cherry tomatoes. Sungold are definitely the best! Just the right combination of sweet and sharp.
